KAMALI CHANDLER - Real Estate As It Should Be

A friend once told me that my best quality is the manner in which I make people feel as if they are my best friend.  While I am not sure if that is true, I can say that I genuinely care about people - whether friends, family, clients or the barista who prepares my cappuccino each morning – I value THE PERSON.  I try to remember names, or their child’s name or birthday - any details of their lives that show that I care.  We are so preoccupied and plugged into our gadgets that we do not see or even hear what people are saying to us – if we can disconnect from our IPhones, we can connect with people.

The authentic relationship that I have with myself.  Authenticity for me means creating a harmonious balance between my core beliefs and my actions.  I cannot say that this necessarily makes me “the best”, but it does make me feel like I am making an effort to live to my full potential.  I am quite clear of what my values are, I stand Firmly in the principles that I believe in, but I forgive myself when I am unable to live to the standard I have set for myself.  This sense of self-awareness & self-trust allows me to be emotionally open.

Personal: By the time I was 21 years old, I was the mother of a 2 ½ year old daughter and 6-month old son and I WAS in the process of dissolving my marriage.  I was thrust into adulthood and quickly learned how to navigate the ebb & flow of single-parenting while working to fulfill my educational and professional aspirations.  During those challenging years I aspired to maintain a level of naiveté (not to be confused with being gullible).  I refused to allow the mark of disillusionment and weariness to become etched into my being.  Thankfully these days are more about flow than ebb - all the more reason to enter the world with the goal of believing in the goodness of people, wondrous love and serendipitous encounters.  I love the fact that no matter how often I see a full moon, its splendor still takes my breath away.

Business: Money has never been my driving force.  In my professional life my primary objective is one: to create an experience that is set on a foundation of trust.   The purchase or sale of a home is often accompanied by a major life change - whether marriage or the birth of a child, divorce or parents transitioning to an empty-nest, and yes, there are the times when a real estate decision is motivated by the death of a loved one.  These moments in life are brewing with emotions that are often exacerbated with the stress of having to make rational, financial decisions.  My clients must have confidence that I will guide them, make the journey as smooth as possible and represent them with utmost professionalism and dedication.  Trust ultimately results in repeat clients and referrals.  A satisfied client means a long-term relationship that goes beyond the one-time deal.

FAVORITE MOTTO: “To thyself be true.”

FAVORITE PEOPLE:  Me, Myself & I.  My children – they have taught me how to love…unconditionally.

I have lived in other countries,  however, as a native-New Yorker this is the only City I can call “home”

I LOVE being home, preparing a wonderful dinner for myself and retreating to the comfort of clean, crisp sheets and my latest Netflix addiction.

Monday matinee at any NYC indie movie theater with my mobile phone on my nightstand at home.  Freedom.

I love India - anywhere and everywhere in this country, from the opulent hotels, to the tapestry of life (and after-life) on the banks of the Ganges River, to the ten-hour journey on an overcrowded bus from Delhi to Udaipur with only a bottle of water and bag of cashews for food.  It is a country of beautifully orchestrated chaos - a fusion of people, aroma, sounds and colors pushing your senses to their limits.  India is a place that will forever linger in my soul.

My Blackberry Classic, which now sits forlornly on my dresser drawer, a reminder of days before Apps.

In 2006 I purchased a brown smoky topaz ring designed by Daniela de Marchi.  This ring has been on my right hand almost every day since I purchased it.  The ring is a beautiful object, but for me, the ring is my logo.

My iPod – my music is my medicine.

My eight year old Dell Laptop – the keeper of all my secrets!

I have a long list, but will narrow it down to what immediately came to mind:

My children - my greatest creation.

My career.  As a teenager I was determined to have a career in journalism.  I was going to change the world with my words.  ‘Alas the world had different plans for me and here I am – a real estate professional and I absolutely love it!
